Mike Holt is a UC Berkeley–trained editor and writer by way of an indirect route. He joined the Marine Corps immediately after high school and for many years traveled to places he never imagined seeing, having grown up in a small no-stoplight-town in central New York.
As an enlisted infantryman he went to places most think a person with that job would go. But he was fortunate to also experience diverse areas and cultures while serving at US embassies abroad. He had a close-up look at the workings of the State Department and other departments of government. (He also learned that one should not approach a protective mother hippopotamus while in a small, leaking boat on the Chari River in Africa!)
Since leaving the Marine Corps, Mike has continued traveling to unfamiliar places with his wife. He earned an MBA and got into business and real estate management and investment. But his passion is words and what they convey to the person on the other end of them.
Ultimately, Mike enjoys acquiring knowledge and experiences. He has accumulated an understanding of a broad collection of subjects—a trove from which to draw when diving into various editorial projects.
